Unlocking the door on our 2003 Jeep Liberty using only the key (not the remote) sets off the alarm . The alarm keeps going off just about every time we open the door. This can be pretty embarrassing and annoying depending on where you are and what time of the night it is. We asked the Jeep dealership what the cause was, and they just told us that it was going to happen since we were not using the remote to unlock the doors. So now we have finally figured out a workaround to this issue that doesn’t involve buying a new remote for a 10 year old vehicle!
We’ve found that if the inside light turns on when you unlock the door, then the alarm is not going to go off. So when you unlock the door, just keep turning it back to the right and to the left slowly until you see the inside light come on. It can be difficult to see the inside light during the day, but if you unlock the car several times, usually you will get it unlocked the “right way”.
Even though this isn’t the manufacturer’s recommended way of handling this, we’ve found that this works and works well.
