So I tell you to ask and you will receive, search and you will find, knock and the door will be opened for you. – Luke 11:9
I came across this verse tonight as I was reading my daily devotion in YouVersion. This verse gives us a great picture of how God works if we can bring ourselves to believe it. We say we live by God’s word, but do we? How many times have you felt down in the dumps, lonely, afraid, angry, hurt, and yet you did not ask God to give you comfort? Or how about those times when you are worried sick about making ends meet for the month? Yet you still do not ask God to provide for you and your family. These are basic issues of life that we all face (myself included), but we so easily forget that we have direct access to a loving Father in heaven who wants nothing more than to be our everything and provide for us.
In Luke 11:9, these are words directly from Jesus. He is telling us that all we need can be found in God. All we have to do is ask for it. Jesus paid the highest price and suffered the worst death this world will ever see so you and I could live in God’s love. He wants to take care of us and guide us into His will for our lives so that we can be truly fulfilled in life. Who better than to run our lives than the One who made us AND knows the future?!
Another of my favorite verses on this topic is Matthew 6:33:
But more than anything else, put God’s work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well.
Another translation says to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. That is a great verse to commit to memory for those times when you begin to worry about things that God has already told us He will take are of.
I challenge you to give this a try for at least a few days when you are feeling down, guilty, worried, etc… Just ask God to give you what you need and show you the way. See Him in your spare time by reading the word and praying, and He will make Himself known in your life. He WILL show up.
